We will be playing version 1.0 during this beta and probably the other betas also. I’ll give it my 30 days of playing when it comes out but won't play much past it.īeta 3 opens tonight at 9PM Central - I'll be on an Elyos toon (cleric, "Thiste") on Israphel if anyone wants to group up.Īctually it will be open at 2pm central time, 9pm is CEST(Central European Summer Time). It’s a suitable MMORPG for maybe ages 15-35. The beta was populated with way too many kids … but it is summertime. Mage -> Sorcerer (zap) or Spiritmaster (“Pikachu, I choose you!”) Scout -> Assassin (stabby) or Ranger (pew pew)Ģ0. Priest -> Cleric (heal) or Chanter (buff/weak heal) ġ9. Warrior -> Gladiator (pow!) or Templar (tank)ġ8. Only 4 starting archetypes (fighter, cleric, mage and thief!), after 10 levels you choose to focus on a variant of those four (8 total).ġ7. Only two factions, but you can create the appearance of most ‘fantasy’ races easily when you make them.ġ6. It is very funny watching a little girl with pink pigtails, a “heart” tattoo on her cheek and a pink dress set large ogrish things on fire.

Variety of quests and the usual stuff (some “kill X bears” and “find me Y antennae” stuff)ġ3. Ranged and caster classes were really easy to play, melee very difficult to stay alive.ġ2. Only 4 voices per gender, “preview” function broken so it was easy to mismatch voice to character.ġ1. You can make very “Asian”-style characters, “anime” style, “Western” etc.ġ0. Did I mention how customizable characters are? I made a short chubby dwarflike toon, a 5-year-old pink-haired girl (a mage, of course), a goth-emo demonic dude and a slew of others.

You can choose from a few strong colors for hair/skin/lip, or a full palette.ĩ. Characters are as customizable as Mass Effect, but with far more choices. Flying is the main point of the game as it unfolds. The spell effects are unmatched in any RPG I’ve played (although I only saw low-level stuff).Ħ. The graphics are really top-notch and I can see how they’ve made it work with lower polygon counts little stutter.ĥ. Korean folklore seems to be laced in pretty strongly, but mixed with faux-Christianity and elements of … Nordic mythos.

Most “big” quests have at least a small cutscene in-game in a cinematic style. There’s no opening cutscene or tutorials to get started, it’s a bit confusing.Ģ. Here's a quick list of rifleshots with my impressions:ġ. Still, the artwork looked appealing, so I'll give it a shot. I hit 225+ /played in WoW and life post-MMORPG has been really nice. I played the beta this weekend (the girlfriend was out of town!) after a lot of deliberation. For people that had high hopes for WAR, especially as compared to WoW, I think they might want to give this one a look. The US beta felt more polished and finished than many games after a year. Word is that EU/US release should integrate most of these changes. Game went retail in Korea 4Q last year, and since then there have been 2 major content expansion patches and 3rd one is being tested. Heavily luck and money-dependent, not exactly casual-friendly. People who dislike PvP will not be able to avoid it. We'll have to see if NCSoft learned anything from their management of L2. Korean-designed games seems to have a nature susceptibility to botting and RMT, so Aion is no exception. Well-designed and integrated crafting system. Combat is very fluid, flashy, and fast-paced, also scales very well with number of people involved. There's no artificial separation between the two aspects. Very dynamic PvP system that fits in seemlessly with PvE. Also plenty of quest grinding if you like that. Far more tolerable grind than L2 and FFXI, but harder than WoW. Has that anime and high fantasy-influenced Korean art style, faintly reminiscent of GW and L2. Extremely diverse customization options. Very polished game engine with minimal bugs, endless eye candy. It's also retail in China but less said about that version the better, though that's the only version I've spent a fair amount of time on. The game is retail in Korea, and CB in Japan and Taiwan. Early opinions from review sites have been very favorable with emphasis on stability, user-friendliness and graphics. Anyway if you're interested a good source for information is.

I think the last thread about this is over a year old.but NCSoft is finally looking at a NA/EU release in September, with a series of preview weekends between now and then, like what they did with Guild Wars a while back.
